The “It” I need is a KISS from YOU
The word Best & Greatest is thrown around so much when it comes to rappers, but how many of you really know what these words mean? The word best is an adjective defined as “Of the most excellent, effective, or desirable type or quality”. The word greatest is an adjective that means “Superior in quality or character”. Now you tell me how many of todays artist have the quality or qualities of either of those definitions? Take your time I’ll wait. Now I know what I am about to say is going to rub some people the wrong way but it needs to be said & I want to be the one to say it, Tupac & Biggie are not the greatest or the best MC‘s of all time. Allow me to start are they really? Tupac (who I’m not a fan of) but will definitely admit that he was a very good rapper in his own right, and had that it factor that was needed in the 90′s to stand out, on top of his good lyrics, and story telling. He was an individual but does being an individual make you great? When it comes to Biggie (who I am a fan of) what made him “one of the greats?” He was a great story teller that had a dope flow but that doesn’t make you one of the greatest. How can we consider two artist with limited bodies of work that never reached their peak two of the greatest of all time? We can’t because two potential great careers where cut short & any ranking of their careers are incomplete. If we consider Biggie & Pac the best because of their early demise there are a couple of other people we need to put on the list of greatest rappers or greatest anything. Follow me as I explain. Allow me to start with Big L (05/74-02/99) a Harlem rapper who was once part of Children of The Corn with Mase, Camron & Bloodshed, he was also part of the DITC with Fat Joe, Diamond D, Show Biz & A.G., Buckwild & O.C. His solo debut album was released in March 1995 & included two popular songs ”Put It On” and “M.V.P.” which reached top twenty-five of Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks. I have asked a couple of people that work in the music industry about Big L & would you believe they asked me who he was? If we are going to praise Biggie & Pac for what they did in the short time that they where on this earth then we definitely have to include Big L. Eminem who is considered to be one of the greatest MC’s of all time pays homage to Big L & even puts him in his favorite MC’s category, so why don’t we? Next up Freaky Tah (05/71-03/99) I can see the look on your faces, who? Freaky Tah was the hype man for The Lost BoyZ (Mr. Cheeks) if we are going to crown people the best just because they pass Freaky Tah was the best hype man ever not Flavor Flav. Yes there are other hype man Spliff Star (Busta Rhymes), Pain in Da ass (Roc-A-Fella), & City Spud (St. Lunatics) but no one stands a chance against Freaky Tah. If we are going to put people in their place because of their untimely demises Hank Gathers (Loyola Marymont) & Len Bias (Univ. Maryland) are two of the greatest forwards to ever play without ever taking the floor in the NBA. I wrote this article to say this when we rank or rate people let us step back & look at the situation/career with an objective eye before we rush to judgement & crown someone the GREATEST or BEST of all time.
With Beyonce getting ready to go on maternity leave are there any female artist ready to step up & fill in? Besides Lady GaGa (who has as big a fan base if not bigger) I do not think that we have anyone that will be able to put on a show quite like she does or generate the type of interest that she does. We have seen this before an artist stepping up & using another artist down time to catapult their career. I am speaking of none another than Trey Songz. I know some people may say I am hating but not in the least bit, I think Trey is good at what he does but let’s be honest he wasn’t as popular as he is now until the Chris Brown & Rihanna incident went down. Stop & think about it before you say anything. Up to that point Chris Brown was the “it kid” he was everywhere & on everyones songs/albums, winning all the awards etc…. then it happened & Trey & his people jumped all over his opportunity to move up. Can you blame them? No. I believe L.A. Reid is thinking the same thing that I am & that is why he signed Ciara to fill that gap while B is gone. Who else is out there? Ciara who would give a good show but is not a great singer. Keri Hilson good song writer but I am not sure that she can or will pick up the following. Keyshia Cole who can sing but I’m not sure she can move like Ciara or B. Mya who can sing & dance but needs better song writers. Ashanti can attempt a come back but I think she has more work to do than all the other women in this article. Some of you may be asking what about Rihanna? I see her as Beyonce’s Trey Songz she has a good following but she is one of those artist you either love her or you hate her. If at all possible they should come together like voltron & form one super entertainer, lol. What do you think?
Ok ok ok we’ve been hearing since the 2010 NFL draft that Tim Tebow wouldn’t or couldn’t make it in the NFL as a quarterback & man are they looking stupid as hell right now. I am not a Tebow fan at all (Go FSU) but what is the main goal in the NFL? Too win. No one said that the wins had to look good but you had to be on the right end of it & from what I have seen this season Tebow is doing just that with a 4-1 record since being inserted into the lineup for the Denver Broncos which is better than some of the prototypical qb’s that are in the league such as Colt McCoy The Browns 3-6, Curtis Painter The Colts 0-10, Sam Bradford The Rams 2-7 they may not be the best qb’s but they’re the prototypes. The other thing that seems to bug me is how some of these talking heads mainly Trent Dilfer (ESPN) who talks so hard & loud about how Tebow can’t play I’m sorry I don’t remember Dilfer setting the league on fire when he played but he continues to run his mouth like he has the resume of Steve Young (ESPN) or a Kurt Warner (NFL Network) but he continues to hate. Dilfer although you may never read this I have a question for you, why do you drool all over yourself when Tom Brady (Patriots) pulls out a fourth quarter come back but when Tebow does it you only fine negative things to point out? In my opinion I think it’s jealousy because for all of the years that you were in the league you never received this much attention. I don’t know if you think you are in another class because the Ravens went to the Super Bowl & brought you along NEWS FLASH YOU are not the reason they won the defense is. That defense was good enough that almost anyone could have played qb & gotten a ring so please stop hating on Tebow & give the man his 15 minutes if not more of glory. I don’t know if you’re a Broncos fan or not watching him play may not be easy to do but if you can hold on long enough he makes the game fun to watch in the fourth quarter not to mention seeing his team rally around him is amazing. GO TEBOW!!!!!
